- Dual Inkwells: Flanking the central nest on either side are built-in carved circular wells holding clear, faceted glass inkwells.
- Pen Tray Base: The lower front section forms a wide, shallow pen tray, textured to mimic a forest floor or bark terrain, bordered by rustic foliage, branches, and carved hazelnut/acorn clusters along the front rim.
Material & Craftsmanship Details
- Woodwork & Carving (Black Forest Style)
- Foliage & Botanical Accents: The base rim and surround feature deeply undercut leaves and smooth nut clusters (hazelnuts/acorns) integrated seamlessly into the naturalistic branch motif.
- Texture & Finish: Rich, dark walnut-toned patina with warm undertones showing natural wood grain and delicate gouge/chisel marks typical of late 19th Swiss/German Brienz wood carving.
- Reverse Side: The back shows a fully carved structure, while the flat underside retains raw chisel marks and a smooth, unvarnished base.
- Inkwells & Lids
- Glass Reservoirs: Two clear glass inkwells with faceted bodies that taper upward toward round collars.
- Lift-Off Stopper Lids: Each glass well is fitted with an unattached, wooden lift-off lid topped with a carved circular wooden cap and backed by a cork stopper insert to fit securely into the glass neck.
