This 1850s New England umbrella ink bottle has classic mid-19th-century glasshouse characteristics and handmade features:

  • Form & Color: Mold-blown in a distinctive octagonal profile with deep beveled panels, rendered in a rich teal green glass characteristic of regional American bottle glass production.
  • Lip & Neck: Features a wonderfully crude, lopsided rolled-in lip formed by hand while hot during the blowing process, showing characteristic irregularities and folding lines along the short neck.
  • Base & Pontil: The base displays a rough, indented open pontil mark with a tubular or crescent-like scar where the pontil rod attached during finishing, leaving distinct texture and evidence of mold contact.
  • Provenance: Recovered from Athol, Massachusetts, placing it firmly within the rich sphere of historical New England glass manufacturing and trade.
