This tea kettle inkwell made of uranium glass has a bulbous body with fluted vertical lines, creating a ribbed texture – also described as gadroon decoration or “semi-pumpkin” form.

Yellow and light green glass began in the 1840’s. To make these colors the glass factories added uranium oxide to the glass batch. Glass with small amounts of uranium glows a bright green under ultraviolet light.
