One would use a pen wipe (pen brush) to remove the excess ink from the nib of a pen. This wipe, made by Tiffany & Co, features a floral repousse decoration. It is marked on the bottom “Tiffany & Co. – Makers – Silver Soldered – E.P.” With numerical markings “ 9577, 25, 0”. The text “SILVER-SOLDERED-E.P.” reveals that the pen wipe is made from silver-soldered electroplate. This technique involves fusing a thin layer of silver onto a base metal (usually copper or brass). The “E.P.” stands for “electroplate.”
