The body of this traveling inkwell is cut glass with polished sides and a starburst on the bottom. The cover, the lid, and the screw tab are all sterling silver, hand chased in a fancy foliate pattern. The center has an interlocking script monogram that looks like WBP. The hinged screw-tab is decorated on both sides  and lays flat once screwed down.

The inkwell is marked with a lion passant, a leopard head, a lower-case Gothic “k” (for production year of 1845), a left facing profile of Queen Victoria (in use from 1838 to 1890) and a “WN” (William Neal) in an oval maker’s mark.

Sold for $135 in August 2024
