Sterling silver lock-down travel inkwell with faceted glass bottle and a silver mounted top decorated with period engraving. It has a fully working silver “screw-down” key with the original interior leather seal. There is a period Gothic monogram in the cartouche.
The inkwell has a full set of English silver hallmarks for London 1843 (Gothic letter “h”) with further matching silver hallmarks on the lid and key and includes the silver duty stamp of Queen Victoria. The silversmith’s initials are “F.D.” (Frances Douglas 1837-1856).
