This ornate inkstand was crafted from a large, iridescent seashell, most likely an abalone shell, given its characteristic luster and shape. The fluted glass inkwell features a decorative lid that is attached by a chain to a reclining dog figure, which resembles a golden retriever. The inkstand is adorned with gilded leaf decorations, including a prominent leaf on the left side of the shell base.
