This is a porcelain inkstand from the renowned Royal Copenhagen manufactory. The central design features two beautifully sculpted cockerels facing each other. These cockerels are rendered in white porcelain with delicate details highlighting their plumage, combs, and wattles.

The cockerels are positioned on an elongated, slightly asymmetrical base, also made of white porcelain. Between the cockerels one finds the inkwell. The lid for this inkwell is a separate, small, rounded piece.

Both the base and the inkwell’s lid are adorned with hand-painted leaves. These leaves are depicted in muted green and grey tones and are scattered across the white porcelain surface.

The design of this inkstand is attributed to Christian Thomsen. Christian Thomsen was a significant artist and designer who worked for Royal Copenhagen during a crucial period of their artistic development, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was known for his naturalistic and often whimsical figural designs, and this inkstand with its detailed cockerels fits well within that aesthetic.  The mark on the underside dates the inkstand to 1920.
