A roaring lion’s upper body with crossed front paws is attached to a pen tray with claws on the front sides and a tail in the middle. The upper body is made of spelter metal (smelted and alloyed zinc). The pen tray base which resembles a lion skin rug is made of cast iron (a magnet sticks). The inkstand is cold painted with nice detail to the eyes and has a casting which showcases the lion’s mouth, teeth, fur texture, and claws. The top of the lion’s head is hinged, and tilts open to access the inkwell.

Note: the upper body with crossed front paws was available separately without the “lion skin” cast iron base: Roaring Lion Inkwell – Crossed Paws – The Society of Inkwell Collectors (SOIC) (inkwellresearch.com)
