Description of the 19th Century French Inkstand

  • Poodle Figure: The inkstand is surmounted by a finely cast figure of a standing poodle. The dog is sculpted with a stylized haircut typical of the era, and it is holding a letter in its mouth.
  • Lift-Off Cover: The entire top section, including the standing poodle figure, functions as a single lift-off cover. This cover conceals the inkwells and pen holes when not in use.
  • Inkwells and Pen Holders: The inkstand’s interior, revealed when the cover is removed, contains two circular brass wells. These wells are removable. The brass base also has two holes which were designed to hold the dip pens.
