This metal inkstand takes the form of an owl perched beside a long, textured feather.
Description: The primary elements are the owl and the feather. The feather is elongated and serves as a pen tray, featuring finely incised lines to mimic individual barbs and a prominent central shaft of a quill. The inkstand rests on four small, decorative “ball and claw” feet.
The owl’s body is textured to represent feathers. Its most captivating detail is its vibrant yellow glass eyes, which stand out against the dark metal and give the owl a lifelike, watchful expression. The owl’s head is hinged, allowing it to open and reveal the circular reservoir for ink within its body. On the underside of the feather, the impressed number “2857” is visible. This is likely a mold number or pattern number.
