This porcelain inkstand features a hunting dog (pointer/spaniel) crouching in a play-bow stance over a grassy mound, holding a retrieved game bird (duck or pheasant) in its mouth.
The piece functions as a dual-component desk set:
- The Lid & Sculpture: The entire upper section featuring the dog on the earthy, moss-green mound acts as a removable cover.
- The Base & Wells: Removing the lid reveals a pink-enameled basin housing two fitted porcelain inserts trimmed in gilt—one solid pot for liquid ink and one perforated pot serving as the sander (pounce pot). The lower skirt of the base is styled in soft pale green and scrollwork with scroll-motif pen rests/quill holders.
