A Georgian sterling silver lock-down inkwell from 1809. The square inkwell is all silver with wooden panel overlay around the sides and has an armorial griffin engraved into the lid. It has the original hinged screw fashioned as a shell, which locks the lid down the base. The shoulders of the inkwell are decorated with flowers. The silver carries a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that date it to London 1809 along with a maker’s initials T.D. (Thomas Daniel).
