An exquisite late 19th-century cut crystal and sterling silver desk inkwell crafted by Black, Starr & Frost, renowned as America’s first jeweler and a premier New York City purveyor of luxury silver and gems since 1810.

A magnificent luxury desk accessory by America’s first jeweler. This heavy 3.5-inch square cut-crystal inkwell features intricate overall diamond-cut patterning and a radiant starburst base. It is surmounted by a heavy sterling silver hinged cap deeply embossed with a lush floral bouquet and scrolling motifs. Stamped “BLACK, STARR & FROST STERLING” on the collar. Complete with its original glass liner.

Key Features & Craftsmanship

• The Crystal Body: Heavy, brilliant-cut square crystal base measuring 3.5 inches across, featuring an intricate diamond-cut pattern on all four sides that brilliantly refracts light. The underside is finished with a sharp, crisp starburst (or hobstar) cutting.
• The Sterling Silver Mounts: Topped with a substantial, domed hinged lid exquisitely embossed and chased with an elaborate floral bouquet and scrolling foliate motif. The interior of the lid reveals a rich, gilt-washed finish with decorative chasing. The collar bears the maker’s hallmark stamp reading “BLACK, STARR & FROST” alongside “STERLING”.
