This sterling silver inkwell with clear associations to greyhound racing is hallmarked for Birmingham in 1929. The inkwell is made from sterling silver. It has a circular, weighted base for stability. The inkwell features a rounded, domed lid that is hinged to the base.
Engravings:
The top of the domed lid is engraved with the words:
“WON BY GRANDLY CHOSEN”
The inkwell was presented as a trophy for a greyhound named Grandly Chosen, for racing victories.
Below the hinged section of the lid, on the sloping side, is further engraving:
“Presented by The Greyhound Racing Association LTD Harringay Stadium”
Harringay Stadium was a well-known greyhound racing track in London.
The inkwell is topped with a reclining greyhound. The greyhound is depicted in a relaxed, lying-down posture, its sleek form and characteristic features clearly recognizable.
