A silver gilt mounted green glass inkwell of ‘tea kettle’ syphon form. The hinged lid is made in the form of a Coronet of a Marquess and opens to reveal the maker’s stamp medallion. The spout has a hinged silver gilt lid. The crown opens to reveal a medallion and wafer holder.

Made by Gabriel Riddle, London, 1838. Once full of ink the syphon inkwell retains a permanent level of ink in the spout that is replenished by atmospheric pressure.
