Ladies’ writing set from 1791.The case is red Morocco with little brass hinges and hooks and inside it is divided into sections for various writing accoutrements. Underneath the lid there is a mirror with pale blue cushioning on either side. The base has compartments for a quill pen at the back, then sealing wax, scissors, two inkwells on either side of a little storage box for wafers and quill slips. A note in the case reads “Eliza Wolfe – The Gift of Eliza Smythier – April 28th, 1791”.
