This gilt bronze inkstand features two sculpted dolphins on either side of the central inkwell, appearing to leap from the surface of the rectangular base. The dolphins are detailed with scales and fins. They are symmetrically positioned and face away from each other. The central inkwell itself is adorned with wave-like patterns or scalloped designs. The lid of the inkwell has a decorative finial, resembling a flame or acanthus leaf design, which serves as a handle.
