Description of this inkwell:
- Construction and Material: The inkwell’s main body is a square, block-like glass inkwell. It is encased in a tin exterior which is finished with a dark, glossy lacquer. The base is supported by four small, round feet.
- Inkwell and Lid: A square glass inkwell and its corresponding lid are encased within this exterior shell. The upper portion, which holds the lid of the glass inkwell, rises slightly from the main body, creating a tiered effect. The top surface of this upper section is also lacquered and features a narrow green border.
- Hand-Painted Decoration: The front face of the inkwell showcases a hand-painted portrait of a fox terrier’s head in profile. The dog has characteristic brown and white markings, with erect ears and a keen expression. The portrait is set within a simple oval frame, painted in green, which contrasts against the dark lacquered background and enhances the visual focus on the dog.
