Description of the Inkwell
The inkwell depicts a turtle, with attention paid to its natural features.
- Form and Detailing: This spelter metal inkwell is shaped as a turtle, with a distinct head, four legs, and a tail extending from beneath the shell. The surface is textured to simulate the rough, scaled skin of the turtle, particularly on the head and legs. The shell itself is highly detailed, featuring individual scutes (the plates that make up a turtle’s shell) with realistic patterns and outlines.
- Opening Mechanism: The turtle’s shell is hinged, allowing it to be lifted to reveal the inkwell reservoir contained within the body of the turtle.
