This double inkstand combines a variety of elements. In the center is a prone deer lying on the lid to a storage compartment with a lock and key. Flanking the deer are two inkwells, each with a hinged lid topped with a dog’s head finial. The front pen tray is embossed with a lighthouse, sailboats, a sculling crew, and racing cars, possibly racing on the shore.
