Dog – Recumbent Retriever Holding a Pen

Measuring 9 ¼” long, 4” deep, 3 ½” tall

Beautifully hand-carved wood and piercing glass eyes distinguish the piece.  This retriever proudly holds a stick (pen) he found. Hinged on his back, inside one finds an ink bottle and a slotted area to store stamps, nibs, etc.  There is some wear and the tip of his tail is missing.

Added are four pictures of a similar carved dog inkwell with a pen in his mouth. This dog, a Spaniel, holds two glass inkwells. He measures 10 inches long and is 4 ¾” high and sold for $400 in September 2025.
