This cast-iron inkstand on a slate base presents a charming scene: a child crawls out of the doghouse while a dog, sitting outside, gives the child a lick. To the right of the doghouse is a low lidded barrel that houses an inkwell. On the left side of the doghouse, behind the dog, is a stump bound with rope (pen holder). The hinged roof of the doghouse lifts to access an ink bottle. Peripheral details include an old fence, a bowl with dog food, a broom, and a blanket draped over the roof.
Estimated value: $300
