1893 Chicago Press Club historical memorabilia likely presented to Mr. Charles H. Wacker. A rare and handsome (possibly one-of-a-kind) presentation double inkwell (standish) featuring two fancy heavy crystal glass containers with detailed globe lids plus a center compartment and lid with a proud canine mounted on top. Ornate and detailed metal work throughout is silver plated.
Inscription reads: Chicago Press Club, Jany, 1893 – There is also a monogram of fancy scrolled letters (initials) engraved in the center just in front of the base of the container that has the canine atop. The letters are: CHW. Research of Chicago elite with those initials and who were likely connected to the press club at that time (which was during the Columbian Exposition) indicates only one possibility: Charles Henry Wacker. This was likely presented to him at that time.
A prominent and influential business leader, Mr. Wacker later went on to chair the Chicago Plan Commission. Chicago’s famous Wacker Drive is named for him.
Estimated value: $500
