| Patent | Robert P. Smith of Philadelphia patented the design on April 11, 1876. The actual bottle differs from the details as shown on the patent papers. This is not unusual as it is not necessary to have every detail as originally shown in the patent drawing. |
Figural clear glass ink bottle from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. It is shaped like Memorial Hall with pressed designs depicting the turrets of the building, windows, and doors. The bottle retains its original pewter cap with statue finial. Embossed “1776 – 1876” over the entrance. The base is embossed “Patented April 11 1876”.
