This bull’s head inkwell is a hand-painted piece made of spelter metal. The bull’s head features fine details, including its horns, snout, and fur, which give it a realistic quality. The upper portion of the head is hinged and lifts to reveal the well for the missing glass insert. The top of the bull’s lower jaw is ribbed to serve as a match strike. This type of object often had multiple uses and may have also functioned as a match safe.
