This whimsical inkstand features an unusual menagerie of bronze figures: a dog, a cat perched on a barrel, and a turtle. The scene is situated on a bronze rug.
- The Dog: A figure of a hound-type dog, possibly resembling a Basset Hound with its long, floppy ears and tri-color coat (brown/tan, white, and black). The dog is seated or crouching, looking towards the turtle.
- The Barrel: The top of the barrel is hinged, and when opened, it reveals the inkwell cavity inside.
- The Cat: A figure of a cat is perched on the top of the barrel, serving as a decorative handle for the hinged lid. The cat is depicted standing with its tail raised.
- The Turtle: A figure of a turtle is positioned on the base near the dog. The turtle in a defensive posture, drawing its head and legs into its shell.
