This Bohemian art glass inkwell has a rounded, bulbous form. It is made of art glass with a distinct iridescent finish, exhibiting a range of metallic sheens such as silver, gold, copper, and possibly hints of blue or purple, depending on the lighting. The surface of the glass is decorated with an applied and trailed decoration in a contrasting golden color. This decoration is abstract, resembling pulled threads, oil spots, or flowing lines, creating a dynamic and textured surface.
The inkwell’s brass alloy lid resembles the veins of a leaf. The lid has an asymmetrical, lobed shape. While this inkwell could have been made by the Kralik glassworks, I’m attributing this inkwell to Loetz. The leaf-like, stylized organic shape of the lid aligns well with Loetz’s typical metalwork.
