This inkstand features a bird perched beside a large egg that serves as the inkwell. The piece is made of painted spelter metal. It rests on a circular base marked “Germany” on its underside.
- The Bird: A realistically rendered bird, possibly a sparrow or a similar small songbird, is perched on the base next to the egg. The bird is depicted standing, with detailed feather texturing and painted in naturalistic tones of brown, grey, and white. The casting captures the form and details of the bird’s body, wings, and legs.
- The Egg (Inkwell): A large, upright egg sits beside the bird. This egg is the inkwell itself. It is depicted in a pale, off-white or cream color, with a slightly textured surface to mimic a shell. The top of the egg is hinged and opens to access the inkwell.
