The inkwell is housed within a golden (brass) egg on the left side of the image. This egg is hinged and can be opened to reveal the inkwell inside. To the right, there is a baby bird chick emerging from a cracked egg. This chick is a cold painted Austrian bronze. The underside of the bird is marked “Geschutzt”.
