Design

• Form & Structure: A wide, undulating single-reservoir inkstand designed in the classic Art Nouveau style. The wide, sweeping front and side flanges function as integrated pen rests.
• Central Relief: Positioned directly beneath the inkpot is a high-relief bust of a maiden (femme nouvelle) with flowing hair that fans downward and sideways, blending into the sweeping contours of the tray.
• Decorative Motifs: Sinuous “whiplash” curves, stylized long-stemmed floral buds/tendrils trailing along each wing, and a domed, fluted hinged lid reminiscent of a scallop shell or stylized blossom.
• Insert: Features a recessed cylindrical well containing a removable, clear molded glass insert.

Material & Manufacturing Details

• Metal Composition: The piece is made of copper-finished metal (either stamped/embossed sheet copper/brass or copper-plated cast white metal/spelter), exhibiting natural dark patina.
• Markings: The underside shows an incised mold/pattern number—3037 (or 3087)—stamped on the right wing.
