This purple teakettle ink bottle was made by use of a snap case. Skilled glassblowers would create the basic shape of the teakettle using molten glass. The glassblower would then place the partially formed teakettle into a specialized mold called a snap case. The snap case mold had two halves that would snap together around the glass, shaping it further. The mold could also include intricate embossed designs or patterns. After shaping, the glass was allowed to cool, and the mold was opened to reveal the finished inkwell. The glassblower would add any necessary finishing touches, such as the spout and lip.
