Ornate Double Inkstand with an Eagle

This ornate double inkstand features a gilded brass-plated frame styled in an exuberant Baroque revival design, complete with scrolling acanthus leaves, cabriole-style feet, and floral motifs. Perched triumphantly on a central column above the inkwells is a detailed spread-winged eagle.

The inkwells themselves consist of two square-cut glass inkwells held within the stand’s frame. Their matching lift-off lids feature intricate, textured gilt metalwork adorned with champlevé enamel work in shades of turquoise, white, and translucent green, forming a delicate starburst motif.

Inkstands of this style, combining glass cut-wells with decorative cast metal frames and enamel accents, were widely produced during the late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1880–1910). This period saw a massive surge in ornate, revivalist desk accessories. Luxury gilt-bronze and enameled desk sets were famously crafted by high-end French makers.  Manufacturing hubs in France (such as Paris) were the primary epicenters for producing such elaborate, high-end decorative brass and enameled pieces for the international market.
