This is a charming and detailed hand-carved Black Forest inkstand, featuring a playful scene of a cat with a fish. The inkstand is carved from wood, consistent with the typical materials of Black Forest carvings. The entire piece is designed as a naturalistic setting, with a sculpted base resembling a rocky or earthen ground, detailed with carved foliage and textures.
The central figure is a cat, depicted in a somewhat mischievous or triumphant pose. The cat is carved with considerable detail, showing individual strands of fur, particularly around its head and body. The cat is carrying the fish, holding it with his paw wrapped around it. The cat has striking, realistic glass eyes. The fish is also intricately carved, showing scales and fin details, and it too has noticeable glass eyes.
The inkwell is cleverly integrated into the design. It is a square, clear glass inkwell that is recessed into a section of the carved wooden base. The inkwell is missing its lid. Around the base, there are carved elements and a pen rest.
