This inkstand features a cold-painted bronze horse’s head mounted on a figural horseshoe-shaped base.
The most prominent feature is the horse’s head, rendered in bronze and then meticulously cold-painted. The painting gives the horse a realistic appearance, with a rich reddish-brown coat, a black mane and forelock, and white markings on its face. The eyes are detailed. The horse’s head is adorned with equestrian tack, including a bridle with gold-painted straps and decorative medallions. The horse’s mouth is slightly open, revealing painted teeth. The head itself is hinged, with the top of the head opening to reveal the inkwell reservoir within.
The horse’s head is mounted in the center of a horseshoe-shaped base. The base is made of brass. The base also features two handles, one on each side, which are shaped like stirrups. These handles are integrated into the horseshoe design, emphasizing the equestrian theme.
