This George III sterling silver lock-down inkwell is in a cylindrical drum shape. It is hallmarked with “TW” (most likely Thomas Wright, reg’d. 1778); a lion passant; a crowned leopard head (used until 1822, after which the leopard lost his crown); an upper case “O”, the date mark for 1809; and a right-facing George III (1726-1821). The inkwell is also stamped with a (partial) lion passant and the date mark “O” at the rear of the lid in front of the hinge.
Beneath the hallmarks is a silver medallion stamped:
