An eagle, wings outstretched, has his talons dug into a fox’s back. The open-mouthed fox, teeth bared, is ready to fight. All elements are intricately hand carved. The base of the inkstand is ornately carved with naturalistic elements resembling branches or roots. Symmetrically flanking the central animal figures, there are two glass inkwells with brass-mounted hinged lids.
