The pressed glass inkwell is held in a bronzed cast iron inkstand. The lid is attached to a bar on the frame and lifts upright when in use. On top is a pen rack that can hold three pens. In the rear is a slot to hold letters or a blotter. The backplate has a design of open arches. The base is rounded on the corners and pointed on the sides. On the bottom, it is signed “Pat. Nov 25, 1879”.
