Two pressed glass inkwells are held in a bronzed cast iron inkstand. The lids are attached to a bar on the frame and lift upright when in use. On top is a pen rack that can hold three pens. In the rear is a slot to hold letters or a blotter. The backplate has a design of open arches. The base is rounded on the corners and pointed on the sides. It’s marked “Pat Nov. 25, 1879” on the bottom.
A second example with a slightly different frame is also pictured. Rather than having an open loop in the center front, the front tab is filled in. It also has a different finish.
