This inkstand in the form of a 12-point buck is marked: Verlag bei E G Zimmermann Hanau (manufactured by E G Zimmerman in Hanau). The stag’s head with glass eyes rests on a base of oak leaves with a small impression in the front for pen nibs and other small desk items. Two examples are shown.
The manufacturer, based in Hanau Germany was a foundry established around 1842, making a variety of metal works including chess pieces which are part of the collection at the NY Museum of Art.
