This gilt bronze writing set made by C. Asprey of London is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s (NYC) collection of European decorative art. The set consists of an inkwell, a pen tray, a perpetual calendar, a paper cutter, and a taperstand. Each are made of gilt bronze with malachite settings. The set was shown at the Crystal Palace exhibition in 1851. Except for the paper knife, each piece is engraved underneath with Asprey’s name and address and the words Exhibition 1851.
