This figural inkstand combines bronze and verde marble. It consists of a cylindrical marble base and a bronze figural top.
- Top (Figure): The upper half of a woman is depicted, cast in bronze. Her head is tilted slightly, and her gaze appears to be directed towards the object she holds. Her hair is styled in elaborate curls or waves, framing her face. She wears a garment with textured details, suggestive of lace or embroidery, and gathers at the sleeves, giving it a neoclassical or early Romantic feel. This entire upper section is designed to lift off, providing access to the inkwell within the marble base.
- Object in Hand: The woman is holding a long, slender, tubular object pointed towards her eye. It has a slightly conical or tapered end and seems to have some rings or segments along its length. Given its placement and shape, it is likely to be a telescope or a spyglass.
- Base: The base is a cylindrical block of dark green marble with distinct white or lighter green veining.
- Inkwell Access: The top half with the woman lifts off, revealing a cavity in the marble that houses the porcelain inkwell insert.
