Description: The inkstand is made of gilt metal, which has a rich, golden finish. The central figure is a winged cherub or putto, depicted in a dynamic pose, reaching upwards and leaning against a tree branch. The cherub is finely sculpted, with distinct features and flowing wings.

The inkwell itself is separate from the main cherub figure and consists of a square base with fluted designs. It contains a removable clear glass inkwell. The inkwell is topped with a round, decorative gilt metal lid that lifts off (it is not hinged), featuring a raised cherub figure surrounded by scrollwork. In front of the inkwell, there are two small, upturned, prong-like elements used to hold a pen. The base of the entire piece is scrolled and rococo inspired.

Style: The classical cherub motif, the elaborate scrollwork, and the gilt finish are all characteristic of late 19th-century European decorative arts, particularly styles influenced by Baroque and Rococo revival movements. These types of inkstands were popular in France, Italy, and other parts of Europe.
