Wedgwood black basalt inkwell produced ca. 1820, with Rosso Antico (literally, old red) decorative sprigs with grapes and vines. It has four small holes for holding quill pens around a larger central hole for dipping into the ink. After 1790, Rosso Antico was used by Wedgwood with Black Basalt in decorative items, as with this rare inkwell.
