This Villeroy & Boch pottery inkstand was handcrafted in Mettlach, Germany. It features a cherub figure reclining among grapevines with silver highlights. Lift the top piece with the cherub to access a pounce pot / sander, inkwell, and open container for storage.

I questioned whether the figure (he has no wings) is a cherub or a cherubic boy. Here is a link to an article about cherubs, cupids, and other angels in art:

Villeroy & Boch Pottery of Mettlach was founded in 1836 when two competing potteries merged. Francois Boch and his sons began making pottery in France in 1748. They moved to Mettlach in 1809 and merged with competitor Nicolas Villeroy in 1836. The firm made many types of wares, including the famous Mettlach steins.

Estimated value: $200
