Gilt brass Inkwell in the form of a hand, with a cameo styled inkpot lid made of Jasper-ware.

Jasper-ware is a type of pottery developed in England by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770’s. It is typically stoneware (porcelain) with an unglazed matte finish and raised decorations, often in white, giving a cameo effect. This particular motif was popular in the 1860’s.

Although the Wedgwood insert is identifiable, the Inkwell’s origin and era are not. There is no visible marking to assist in the identification.

Missing Inkpot insert.

Suggested price at auction: $1540
