This brass inkwell is designed in the form of a classical helmet. It features chased designs on the dome including a dragon-like creature – possibly a griffin or wyvern. The crest is adorned with a brush-like plume (possibly horsehair) and serves as a pen wipe. The back of the helmet is hinged, revealing an ink pot within. For example #1, the helmet rests on two crossed, stylized swords, forming its base. Example #2 rests on a round wooden base.
