Louis Comfort Tiffany sometimes misjudged the market and made mistakes. Royal Copper was a big dud. Made of sheet copper pressed over simple basic forms, the pattern is too plain and unadorned for the prices it commanded at the time it was made. In addition, rarely could the finish withstand normal wear and often became discolored. Not only because of its high price, the pattern’s quality and design were unembraced even by the Arts and Crafts movement.
Sold for $850 in April 2016
