The “pine needle” pattern was one of the most popular designs produced by Tiffany Studios, in large part due to the glass component. It features Tiffany glass overlaid with bronze filigree pierced with pine needles, which gives the inkwell its name. The most common finishes to the pine needle pieces are metal with a dark patina and two-toned green Favrile opalescent glass (#847 pictured) or a gold finish with caramel-colored glass (#846 pictured). The Pine Needle pattern is part of the studio’s etched metal and glass production, made between approximately 1906 and 1917.
Tiffany made this pattern not just with inkwells, but also pen wipes, stamp boxes, calendars, paper clips, seals, blotters, letter racks, letter openers, scales, playing card case, on and on – over eighty pieces.
Pictured here are two of the varieties of inkwells with Tiffany’s pine needle pattern.

Pattern #847 measures 7” x 3 ½”
