Detailed Description
- Overall Form & Finish: The inkwell is of a squat, rounded form, crafted from bronze finished with a rich, dark, matte patina. The entire body is textured with a cast surface.
- The Lid (Chrysanthemum Motif): The hinged, dome-shaped lid is the focal point of the design. Its surface features concentric rings radiating outward from the center, creating a stylized, heavily detailed rendition of a Chrysanthemum or Sunflower head. This large floral form is a signature element of the Aesthetic Movement (particularly the Sunflower) and the Art Nouveau movement (where the Chrysanthemum symbolizes perfection and autumn).
- The Applied Decoration (Fleur-de-lis): Attached to the lower front of the body is a small, asymmetrical, stylized element that is identified as a Fleur-de-lis or similar stylized lily/iris. This motif is associated with the Art Nouveau and French-influenced designs of the period.
- Inkwell Components: The lid hinges open to provide access to the internal glass reservoir.
